101/EXHIBIT PRESENTS THE EXPRESSIVE REALISM OF ARTIST
ISABELLE DU TOIT
Miami, FL March 11, 2011 –101/Exhibit is pleased to present the latest works from realist artist Isabelle du Toit, a series of 12 works with babies. Born in Stausbourg, France, educated in South Africa, and currently working and residing in Dallas, Texas, Du Toit’s work has been called “sensitive and expressive,” and “sweet but just a little bit uncomfortable.”
“Du Toit merges her abilities as a realist painter with the delicacy of babies” says 101/Exhibit owner Sloan Schaffer, “She demonstrates a subtle conflation of the babies with wild animals and other elements.”
Du Toit's artistic inspiration comes directly from her personal observations, experiences and feelings regarding the world we live in today. Her work is essentially about compassion, empathy and universal inter-connectedness; hence a recurring theme in her work concerns humankind's encroachment on Nature and how the environment we have created for ourselves impacts us and all other species to which we are inescapably linked, physically as well as emotionally. She often explores modern isolation and loneliness. 'Ultimately, I think it important to leave sufficient room for the viewer's own interpretation', she says.
Isabelle du Toit’s works will be presented at 101/exhibit in the gallery's Design District location March 12, 2011-April 6, 2011. Opening reception to be held Saturday March 12, 2011, from 7-9pm.
