101/EXHIBIT is proud to offer a New Year’s show of works on paper, with abstractions full of joyful colors, cheerful patterns, and frolicsome shapes. 

Good Senses will run through February 21st at the 101/EXHIBIT West Hollywood space, located at 8920 Melrose Ave on the corner of North Almont Drive, one block south of Santa Monica Blvd. Embracing the freedom of working on paper—in sketches, collages, gouaches—the artists in Good Senses experiment with color, pattern, and shape. These works border on the musical, as forms and colors echo brightly and rhythmically across the surface of the paper. It’s party music for the eyes.

101/EXHIBIT invites you to leave your cares at the door and join us in Good Senses. As Kandinsky once said: “Lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and ... stop thinking! Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to 'walk about' into a hitherto unknown world. If the answer is yes, what more do you want?”

Erin Curtis graduated from William College with a BA in Liberal Arts in 1999. She received her MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007, and she attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2010. She has had solo shows at The Contemporary, Champion Contemporary, and Woman and Their Work (all in Austin, Texas), at David Shelton Gallery in San Antonio, Conduit Gallery in Dallas, the Lawndale Art Center in Houston, and Kashi Art Gallery in Kochi, India. Curtis was a Fulbright Scholar in Jaipur in 2008. She received the Dallas Museum of Art’s Dozier Travel Grant in 2012 to travel to Guatemala, where she studied traditional textiles and architecture of the region. She currently lives in Washington, D.C.

Craig Kucia received a graduate degree from the Chelsea School of Art in London and his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1999. He has had solo shows at Shaheen Modern and Contemporary Art in Cleveland, Florida Southern College’s Melvin Gallery, Kevin Bruk Gallery in Miami, and Blum & Poe in Los Angeles. He has participated in group shows in several U.S. galleries and museums, including the Wooster Art Museum in Ohio, the Miami Art Museum and Wolfsonian in Miami, Derek Eller Gallery in New York City, and Roberts & Tilton in Los Angeles. He currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio.

Kristen Schiele received a BFA from Indiana University and an MFA from American University; she also studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. She has had solo shows at Lu Magnus, Sloan Fine Art, and Freight and Volume Gallery in New York City, the Soap Factory in Minneapolis, and Curators Without Borders Gallery in Berlin. Schiele has also participated in group shows across the United States, including Cheim and Read and Caren Golden in New York City, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, and the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington D.C. She has held residencies at the Provincetown Work Center, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Lower East Side Printshop. She currently lives in Queens, New York.
